The Our Part Food Program was established in October 2015 by the Green Creek Bethel United Methodist Church to help combat hunger in Cape May County, New Jersey. The program provides a weekend supply of food for children during the school year when school lunch and breakfast are unavailable. Food is sent home at the end of the school week in a numbered backpack. Children are asked to return the backpack on the first day of school the following week, so that it can be refilled for the next week’s delivery.
Since its inception, over 6000 backpacks of food have been sent home with children in need. The average cost to fill a backpack is $5.00. The program is supported by individuals, school staff, community organizations, local churches and businesses. All contributions benefit the children, with no administrative costs or fees. Thanks to the generous support of our donors, we will be adding an additional grade for the 2018-2019 school year, bringing the total to five grades. We anticipate distribution of over 3500 backpacks during the 2018-2019 school year.
