- 2 Kings 5:13-14 (Naaman and his servants)
Naaman’s servants went to him and said, “My father, if the prophet had told you to do some great thing, would you not have done it? How much more, then, when he tells you, ‘Wash and be cleansed’!” So he went down and dipped himself in the Jordan seven times, as the man of God had told him, and his flesh was restored and became clean like that of a young boy.
Military commanders in ancient Near Eastern cultures were viewed as national heroes. They enjoyed immense wealth, prestige, authority, and public admiration. Yet God brought him to humility by afflicting him with a humiliating disease, Leprosy. This disease is highly visible, painful and socially isolating. Naaman would travel to the ends of the earth in search of a cure, but that cure was not medicine, it was finding humility. Join us for lunch Friday when we discover the power of humility.
